St. Joseph Church has two wheelchairs available for anyone who needs assistance getting into or out of the church. A chair is located in the South entryway. (The front door we do not use). Feel free to borrow this chair if you need it.
Dear St. Joseph’s Parishioners,
The Ladies’ Guild Soup Supper will be Saturday, October 24th from 4:30pm – 7:30pm. We will modify the evening’s events due to the COVID-19 situation. We hope that you can join us at this event in some way. Below are some explanations of how things will look differently this year.
We plan to offer our regular fare of chicken noodle soup, chili, rolls, hot dogs, desserts and beverages just as every other year. We will follow state guidelines for preparing and serving food, and we will follow guidelines for the occupancy rate in the social hall.
If the Governor’s Directed Health Measures change before the event and become stricter, we will modify the event to be take-out orders only. In this case, we would not hold a dinner in the social hall. We will only sell soup and chili in jars as take-out orders. No other food items will be sold. We will notify the parish and the community as soon as possible should this occur.
Raffle Tables and Kids’ Games
We will not have raffle tables or kids’ games this year.
Instead of a live auction, we will hold a silent auction. This will be accomplished in two concurrent ways. The first way will be before and after Mass times during the month of October. Items will be displayed in either the vestibule or in the social hall. Bids will be written on a sheet of paper next to the item. At the predetermined end of the auction, the highest bidder wins the item. The silent auction will be nearly a month-long.
In order to have higher visibility of items, a second way of bidding will be used. We will place pictures and descriptions of the items on the church’s Facebook page. Bids can be written as a comment under an item’s picture. You can join the parish FB page at facebook.com/stjosf.
The director of the silent auction will update both the Facebook page and the sheets of paper as new bids are given. More information will be given in the future about this.
Silent Auction Donations
The Ladies’ Guild will need donations for the silent auction. A good range for items would be $50-$300. If you would like to get a group of friends together to donate an item or a bundle, please let Julie Richards know. 402-881-2407. We would like new items only.
Some examples which may be nice for our COVID-19 situation are a fire pit, a patio set, a patio propane heater, and outdoor games. Another idea is an arrangement of gift cards to local businesses. These are merely suggestions. Be creative but keep the circumstances in mind.
If, instead, you would like to support the Guild with a monetary donation, please drop that in the Guild mailbox which is between Father’s and Sharon’s offices.
Thank you for supporting the Ladies’ Guild in the past and please consider supporting us in the fall. Much of our fundraising is used locally for parishioner scholarships and community support. Please check future bulletins for more information as the Soup Supper draws closer.

REMEMBER IN OUR PRAYERS
For the sick: Kathy Ewing, Harriet Green, Sally Leyden, Jerry Martin, Wes Erhart, Christina Gonzalez, Marjorie Bauman.
*Please let us know if a person needs to be removed from our Prayer List.
Many thanks to Larry and Kathy Kaiser and to Dave & Lin Kulm for donating the money to provide the meal at the Stephens’ Center this month. This was in lieu of preparing and serving the meal due to Covid-19.
FOR THOSE ASKING
The Knights of Columbus has decided that they would not sponsor a food booth at the Sarpy County Fair (if there is a fair) this year. This decision was based on the current price of the food, the close quarters required of workers in the food booth and most likely a lack of volunteers to work due to the Corona virus. They plan to be back next year.
All are welcome to join the St. Joseph’s prayer chain to offer intercessory prayers for those in need. To sign up there are two options to consider. If you would prefer to be notified via phone call, please contact Dorothy Foged at 402-253-2633 to be added. If you would prefer to be notified via text message, please text Julie Richards and type your name and “add to prayer chain” or call 402-881-2407 to be added.
Springfield Platteview will hold the 2020 Graduation Ceremony on Sunday, July 26 at 9 a.m. in the morning at the school parking lot. We congratulate all the 2020 seniors.
